Rocco Curra shooting: Fink Ali Hussein bullying ex-girlfriend after ambush, court hears

A Finks bikie has denied bullying his ex-girlfriend about a statement to police after she allegedly helped lure a Mongols gang member into a shooting ambush using Instagram.

Patched outlaw bikie Ali Hussein gave evidence in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday during a committal hearing for four people charged over the near-fatal shooting of rival Mongols bikie Rocca Curra at Bulleen in August 2019.

Those four people are Mr Hussein’s ex-girlfriend Athar Almatrah, who is charged with attempted murder, alleged gunman Sione Hokafonu and two others.

Almatrah, 30, is accused of creating a fake Instagram account to lure Mr Curra to the location where he was shot in the torso and head four times. He survived the attack.

Hussein told the court on Monday he wasn’t with Ms Almatrah when she allegedly made the fake account and his phone records showed he was at his own home.

He was questioned whether he wanted to “shut her up” after the attack by defence barrister Phillip Dunn QC.

“Nah it doesn’t bother me,” Mr Hussein told the court.

The lawyer, who represents Mr Hokafonu, asked whether the bikie reached out to his ex about making a no comment statement to police or the club would “come for her”.

“That’s your opinion,” Mr Hussein said.

Mr Hussein said he didn’t speak to Ms Almatrah directly after police raided her mother’s home. Instead her sister reached out to him and they had a meeting, he told the court.

“I did not bully anyone,” Mr Hussein said.

“And that was it, she wouldn’t say anything and to leave her alone.”

Mr Hussein joined the Finks for a “sense of brotherhood” and was a member throughout 2020, the court heard.

Another man, Ugur Okanlan, also faced the committal hearing and is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice for allegedly destroying a phone.

Ms Almatrah has denied the allegations against her and was granted bail in December 2020, and Mr Sita was bailed in February.

The committal hearing for the group continues on Tuesday.
