Rachel McAdams is probably the female lead in True Detective: yay or nay?
Even though I’m really annoyed by it, I have to give True Detective producers some props for the most exciting casting-watch of the year. Everybody has an opinion of who should be and who should not be in Season 2 of True Detective and we don’t even know the story/crime. Earlier this week, we heard that Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell have FOR SURE been cast in Season 2. Colin will be playing one the cops and Vince will be playing some kind of career criminal. I’m assuming Vince’s character will be a fast-talking con-man type. But you never know.
I’ve been hoping against hope that Elisabeth Moss would be cast as the lead woman, but a million other names came out, including Jessica Biel. I think we could all agree that Biel is a no-go, right? Right. And now it’s looking like Rachel McAdams is probably going to get the part. YES. I like that choice.
Rachel McAdams is said to be locking down the lead role in season two of HBO’s “True Detective.” Sources tell Variety HBO has offered McAdams the part opposite Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Taylor Kitsch is also expected to land the role of the fourth lead.
Though HBO recently announced Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn as the shows leads, sources say it is the female lead that many believe will have a similar response to fans that Matthew McConaughey’s part as Rust Cohle had in season 1.
Several other actresses have been considered for the part, including Jessica Biel and Malin Ackerman, but McAdams has been seen as the frontrunner for the past few weeks. HBO could not immediately be reached for comment.
What it came down to was scheduling as insiders tell Variety McAdams was about to start filming “Spotlight,” the drama revolving around the Catholic Church sex scandal uncovered by the Boston Globe, and it was unknown whether dates could be worked out for McAdams to do this and “True Detective.” Sources now say that in the last 24 hours a deal was worked out where the actresses could do both projects.
McAdams and Kitsch are expected to play cops alongside Farrell, while Vaughn plays the crime boss whose empire is threatened when his partner is murdered.
I would love to know what happened with Lizzie Moss. Her schedule only recently picked up when she signed on to a Cate Blanchett film this week, so “scheduling” wouldn’t have been a problem. As for Rachel… I remember when people thought Rachel was going to be the next Julia Roberts. As in, a huge movie star who could do dramas, romances, comedies, whatever you wanted. And then something happened. I’m not sure what. Maybe bad advice, maybe bad choices, maybe bad people around her. But Rachel is not the movie star everyone thought she would be. So maybe going to True Detective would be the best career re-boot.
