The Romeo & Juliet child abuse controversy

Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey, who played the leads in the 1968 film “Romeo & Juliet,” had filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County against Paramount Pictures, alleging that the studio sexually abused them by filming their n*de bodies without their knowledge when they were children.

The lawsuit, which has not yet been officially filed in L.A. Superior Court, accuses the studio of sexual harassment, negligence, fraud, appropriation of name and likeness, intentional infliction of emotional distress, unfair business practices, and child sexual abuse.

The suit claims that director Franco Zeffirelli coerced Whiting and Hussey into filming a bedroom scene naked, despite initially assuring them that they would be wearing flesh-colored undergarments.

The actors allege that Zeffirelli threatened their careers if they did not comply and that they were covered in n*de body makeup to give the appearance of n*dity.

The complaint also states that Zeffirelli and Paramount either knew or should have known that images of their nude bodies were unlawfully obtained for later use by the studio.

As a result of the alleged abuse, Whiting and Hussey are seeking damages in excess of $500 million for physical pain, severe mental anguish, and emotional distress, as well as loss of earnings, employment benefits, and job opportunities.

The stars of the movie “Romeo & Juliet” have submitted a lawsuit in Los Angeles County.
