According to a report from New York Post’s Page Six, DMX canceled his performance at the Def Jam 35th Anniversary Party in Williamsburg on Thursday, leaving the organization to scramble for performers at the last minute. An insider who spoke with the aforementioned outlet claimed everyone there was in “panic,” however, Jadakiss and Fabolous “saved the day.”

A source stated that DMX didn’t show up to the event for “personal reasons.” Reportedly, Jadakiss and Fabolous performed songs like “We Gonna Make It,” “Breathe,” among others, for a star-studded list of the biggest names in the game, including Paul Rosenberg, Teyana Taylor, DJ Premier, Slick Rick, Stretch and Bobbito, Fetty Luciano, TJ Porter, and 2 Chains.

As fans of the rapper know, DMX has encountered some difficulty in the past. For instance, he was previously arrested for tax fraud. Federal prosecutors in the city of New York claimed DMX had played a role in a multiple-year scheme in which he tried to hide millions of dollars from the federal government.

DMX had tried to get around $1.7 million in bills to the government. The US attorney, Joon H. Kim, said in a statement that while he was making millions of dollars from his tracks, including the 2003 song, “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” he didn’t bother giving any of the money to the IRS.

Released on $500,000 bond, DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, appeared before a judge and pled not guilty to the charges. At the time, the federal government charged DMX with 14 counts of tax evasion.

The prosecutors claimed DMX didn’t pay any taxes between the period of 2002 and 2005. Moreover, he didn’t file income taxes for the years of 2010 as well as 2015, even though he earned $2.3 million.

Reportedly, Simmons avoided paying taxes through a number of strategies, including creating bank accounts in other people’s names, as well as covering bills with paper money instead of debit and credit.

Moreover, Simmons participated in the VH1 reality television show, Celebrity Couples Therapy, but refused to accept the check unless the taxes were withheld. He was paid $125,000 for filming the production in 2011 and in 2012.
