DMX had tried to get around $1.7 million in bills to the government. The US attorney, Joon H. Kim, said in a statement that while he was making millions of dollars from his tracks, including the 2003 song, “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” he didn’t bother giving any of the money to the IRS.

Released on $500,000 bond, DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, appeared before a judge and pled not guilty to the charges. At the time, the federal government charged DMX with 14 counts of tax evasion.

The prosecutors claimed DMX didn’t pay any taxes between the period of 2002 and 2005. Moreover, he didn’t file income taxes for the years of 2010 as well as 2015, even though he earned $2.3 million.
