Dhananjaya KA Facts
Dhananjaya used to excel in his studies and had secured the highest number of marks in the entire Hassan District twice – once when he was in 7th grade and then again in the 10th grade.
He stated in an interview that he grew up watching movies involving Dr. Rajkumar, an Indian actor & singer who predominantly worked in Kannada cinema and is regarded as one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema. This inspired Dhananjaya to participate in dramas, mono-acting competitions, and street plays while he was still in school.
After completing his studies at the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara (JSS) Science and Technology University, he landed a job with Infosys, a leading Indian multinational information technology company. However, it was around this time that he started taking acting quite seriously and joined an amateur theatre group called GPIER. He was later also recognized and mentored by renowned German theatre artist Christian Stückl.
His career in the film industry began after one of his performances in a drama was recognized by noted Kannada film director Guruprasad who offered Dhananjaya a lead role in a feature film.
He is affectionately called Daali after the character he played in the Kannada-language action thriller film Tagaru (2018) which turned out to be his breakthrough performance. His role as a menacing villain in that film also earned him the nicknames ‘Nataraakshasa’ and ‘Nata Bhayanakara’. Dhananjaya would go on to set up a production house called Daali Pictures.
For his portrayal of the character of Dhananjaya in his debut film Director’s Special (2013), he won the ‘Best Debut Actor’ award at the 3rd edition of the SIIMA (South Indian International Movie Awards ) Awards.
A Kannada short film titled Jayanagar 4th Block that he acted in has amassed more than 2.5 million views on YouTube, as of 2022.
