Adam Sandler Threatens To Make A Movie That Is So Bad On Purpose If He Doesnt Win An Oscar

Adam Sandler has made a name for himself in his post-Saturday Night Live career by making awesome stoner movies in the 1990s like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore before moving on to less-than-spectacular efforts like The Ridiculous 6 and Jack and Jill. But now, Sandler is actually creating some serious Oscar buzz with his performance in the new film Uncut Gems, and the comedian recently told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show that if he doesn’t win an Oscar for the role, he is going to make a movie “that is so bad on purpose.”

Sandler appeared on Stern’s satellite radio show the morning after he lost the Best Actor prize at the Gotham Awards to Adam Driver. And, when Stern brought up the rave reviews for his performance Sandler joked, “That’s shocking, right?”

Stern then suggested that Sandler campaign for an Oscar nomination, even though he usually avoids the media. Sandler said he already “did like an a**hole” when he allowed The New York Times to publish an in-depth profile about him late last month.

Sandler explained that the Safdie Brothers – the co-directors of Uncut Gems – and the cast and crew worked so hard on the movie that he didn’t want to do what he usually does and say, “Eh, I can’t help you out there.”

In the high-octane crime thriller, Sandler plays the role of Howard Ratner who is a jewelry store owner and gambling addict who has dug himself a massive financial hole and he is trying to figure out how to pay his debts before time runs out.

If he does get his first Oscar nomination, Sandler says it would be a “funny big thing,” and he would absolutely show up to the awards ceremony and be “there to win.” He would even leave his jeans and flannel shirts at home and wear a Nike tuxedo.

“If I don’t get it, I’m going to f—ing come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay,” joked Sandler. “That’s how I get them.”

Sandler has already raced to the front of the pack in the Oscar race after the National Board of Review named him Best Actor. With amazing performances from Joaquin Phoenix in Joker, Adam Driver in Marriage Story, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – not to mention Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in The Irishman – it looks like the Best Actor category at next year’s Academy Awards will be a must-see moment.
