In tonight’s 9-1-1 Lone Star episode, two young brothers are surfing at the beach. The youngest goes out into the water deep after his brother tells him no. He promises to stay next to him. They agree, sitting side by side and waiting for a good wave. When one comes the younger brother panics. After the wave breaks, the older brother cannot find his brother as he screams Tyler. He runs to shore and then sees his brother near the docks face down. The lifeguard arrives. She gets Tyler while the oldest Owen calls 911.
Owen talks to Jud about his trip. He is headed to meet his dad in California. Jud gets a call for Wyatt who is in jail. Jud arrives to get him out. He is mad. Wyatt has been busted for vandalism. He brings him home and demands his phone. Grace tells Judd they need to call Wyatt’s mom. They FaceTime her to tell her. She is away on business. She tells them he has been acting up for a while now but cannot pinpoint why.
Owen visits the beach where he lost his brother in the waves. He remembers the EMTs taking him away. Meanwhile, Jud brings Wyatt to visit his Uncle Cash. He introduces Wyatt to his grandaddy. They discuss Wyatt’s recent troubles. His grandfather introduces him to a horse and then gives him a cowboy hat. Wyatt does just fine on the horse while Jud talks to his grandfather.
Owen arrives to visit his dad. He learns his dad has a lot of family visitors. He sees a lot of family in the room and steps away to a visitor’s room to take a breath. He recalls his mother crying when she learned her son was gone. A man comes in. They get to talk about their loved ones. When the man mentions his dad has this plaid shirt, Owen realizes he is talking about his dad. The man tells Owen his dad was great and involved. Owen remembers his dad as an empty chair.
Jud and Wyatt go on a ride. Wyatt finally opens up. He is mad he has just now met Jud and wishes he did earlier. His life would have been different. Just then, Jud sees a rattlesnake on the ground. Before they can back up. It bites the horse, throwing Jud off who lands and hurts his arm. Wyatt also sees Jud has a leg injury – He has something sticking out of it. Jud tries to call Grace but they have no signal. Jud tells him to take his boot off and cut his jeans. It’s the bone sticking out and there is no pulse as well as feeling. Jud continues to instruct a panicking Wyatt.
He needs Wyatt to reset the bone so the artery isn’t obstructed and blood flows again. Wyatt does it. Jud passes out. Meanwhile, Owen checks in on TK. He tells him he loves him and he is proud of him. He doesn’t tell TK where he is.
Owen remembers a moment from his past after his brother died. His mother makes him leave with her. The two move away, leaving his dad behind. He doesn’t want to go, crying as he is forced to leave.
Owen finally gets the courage to visit his dad. His father’s wife knows it’s him. She tells Owen he is dying and she knows he is angry. Just then, the man Owen spoke with in the visitors’ room comes in. He is Owen’s half-brother. He tells his mom that Owen deserves to say his peace.
Jud comes to. Wyatt tried to build a makeshift carrier. It doesn’t work. Jud starts to fade away. Wyatt calls him dad. He comes to again. Just then, their grandpa arrives.
Owen speaks to his dad. He sees now that his father wanted to be his dad. Owen sees he is the one who broke the family after he couldn’t save his brother. He apologizes. His dad wakes and tells him he isn’t at fault. He was a kid. He was the weak one who let grief break up his family. He knows what kind of man Owen has become, a fire captain. After, Owen meets his half-brother Robert who tells him not to be a stranger.
Jud is stable and happy sitting at the dinner table with Grace, the baby, and Wyatt. Jud thanks his own dad for putting up with him. They both are feeling blessed for family. Meanwhile, Owen goes for a surf at the beach.
